DENVER, January 18, 2026 (WELLNESS INTERVIEWS) — Consumer packaged food company Atkins, a Simply Good Foods Co. brand specializing in low-carbohydrate and high-protein nutrition products, has announced a partnership with reality television personality Heather Gay focused on nutrition support for individuals using GLP-1 weight management medications.

The initiative coincides with the release of findings from a pilot clinical study examining how an Atkins-tailored eating approach may support GLP-1 users. The research explored whether higher protein and fiber intake could help address common challenges associated with GLP-1 use, including digestive tolerance and muscle retention during weight loss.

Gay, who has publicly discussed her experience with weight management and GLP-1 medications, is participating in the partnership to share her perspective on nutrition during treatment.

“I've been really vocal about my experiences with my weight and GLP-1s, but one thing I don't think people always realize is how getting the right balance of nutrition is key to reaching and maintaining success. I tell all my friends that Atkins made reaching my goals so much easier, and it's backed by decades of science. Their shakes and protein bars take the guesswork out of meeting my protein and fiber requirements, which is crucial to getting the results I want from GLP-1s,” said Heather Gay.

According to the company, the pilot study indicated that participants following the Atkins GLP-1 eating approach were able to increase protein and fiber intake without worsening gastrointestinal discomfort. The findings also suggested a trend toward reduced muscle loss during weight reduction, though the company noted that further research is needed.

“As access to GLP-1 medication is rapidly increasing, so is the need to quickly resolve questions about which nutrients users should prioritize to maximize tolerance and lasting success,” said Geoff Tanner, CEO of Simply Good Foods.

“Atkins felt it was important to invest in research to determine whether people using a GLP-1 can actually tolerate and benefit from higher protein and fiber diets while cutting back on sugar and carbs,” Tanner said.

The company stated it plans to submit the study findings for publication in a scientific nutrition journal.
