CHICAGO, November 8, 2025 (WELLNESS INTERVIEWS) — Consumer wellness company Graymatter Labs Inc. has raised $1.3 million in seed funding led by Venrex and APEX. The investment will support the expansion of Graymatter’s flagship nootropic drink mix, Bright Mind, and advance its mission to make daily brain health supplementation a routine practice.

Bright Mind was developed over 18 months in collaboration with a PhD molecular biologist and combines clinically researched nootropics and adaptogens designed to enhance focus, clarity, and cognitive energy. The formulation aims to provide short-term mental performance benefits without the side effects associated with traditional stimulants while supporting long-term brain health.

“I started Graymatter to solve my own struggles as a serial entrepreneur searching for sustainable focus. Now, we’re helping thousands of people think clearer, feel sharper, and perform better all without jitters, crashes, or trade-offs of traditional stimulants,” said Jim Phillips, Co-Founder and CEO of Graymatter.

“Most people are focused on supplementing their bodies, but we often neglect the most important piece of the puzzle: our minds. The mind is the most deterministic factor in everything we do — physical, emotional, and beyond. Striving to keep it at peak performance should always be our highest priority,” said Novisa Petrusich, Co-Founder and CFO of Graymatter.

Venrex, an early investor in consumer and wellness brands, was the first to commit to the funding round. “At Venrex, we back ambitious founders building category-defining companies, and Graymatter’s early traction and mission in cognitive health deeply impressed us. We are excited to work with Jim and the team as they continue to build out the Graymatter ecosystem and expand their product line to tackle adjacent categories. We believe they’re poised to lead the mainstream adoption of brain health supplementation,” said Tom Fleming, Founder of Venrex.

APEX, a sports-focused investment firm, also participated in the round, citing growing interest in cognitive optimization for athletes. “In elite sports, the brain is everything. While muscles are trained and cared for daily, the brain is only beginning to catch up. With exceptional customer feedback, natural and clean ingredients, and rapid growth and adoption under Jim and Novi’s leadership, investing in Graymatter was an absolute no-brainer for us,” said Koen Bosma, Partner at APEX.

Palette Ventures also contributed to the funding, highlighting consumer demand for preventative health solutions. “Graymatter is uniquely positioned to meet the rising demand for brain health supplements. Consumers are shifting away from reactive, pharmaceutical care and toward preventative, natural, better-for-you alternatives. This is especially true in areas like ADHD, which affect so many American families. We're obsessed with the talented, resourceful founding team and were especially impressed by the glowing customer reviews and strong unit economics,” said Nina Faulhaber, Partner at Palette Ventures.

Founded by Phillips and Petrusich, the Chicago-based company plans to use the funds to expand its team, strengthen marketing initiatives, and develop additional functional formulations focused on accessible and measurable cognitive enhancement.
