LOS ANGELES, July 5, 2026 (WELLNESS INTERVIEWS) – Herbalife has expanded its global "Fuel Like Ronaldo" campaign with guidance on in-competition nutrition, emphasizing the 15-minute halftime break as an important opportunity for athletes to refuel and rehydrate before the second half of competition.
According to the company, sports performance experts recommend using halftime to replenish carbohydrates, fluids and electrolytes to help support endurance, reaction time and overall athletic performance after play resumes.
"Most fans see halftime as a break. We see it as the most important fueling window of the match. Fifteen minutes of focused refueling can be the difference between holding pace through the second half and watching it slip away," said Dr. Krissy Ladner, Director of Sports Performance and Nutrition Education at Herbalife.
Herbalife says athletes can lose between one and three liters of sweat per hour during training, with fluid losses of about two percent of body weight potentially affecting sprint speed, reaction time and overall performance. The company noted that sweat contains electrolytes including sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium and calcium, which play roles in hydration, muscle function and nerve signaling.
As part of its guidance, Herbalife recommends consuming 30 to 60 grams of easily digestible carbohydrates, replacing electrolytes—particularly sodium—and drinking 12 to 24 fluid ounces during the halftime window. The company also advises athletes to maintain consistent fluid intake throughout competition, particularly during prolonged exercise or in hot weather.
According to Herbalife, the recommendations are intended for athletes at all levels, including recreational players, runners and cyclists participating in activities lasting longer than one hour.
